Effective Communication is the Key to Building Innovation – Malang City Government

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – Deputy Mayor of Malang, Ali Muthohirin emphasized the importance of effective communication as the key, especially in the era of open information and amidst the rapid development of digital technology. He conveyed this when opening the Public Communication Training (Public Speaking) held by the Malang City Communication and Informatics Service (Diskominfo) at the Ijen Suites Hotel, Wednesday (2/7/2025).

The training attended by 337 participants aims to improve the community’s competence in public communication. Deputy Mayor Ali said that effective communication includes the ability to convey messages clearly, in a structured and convincing manner.

“Public speaking skills are key to ensuring that messages from the government, such as the policies of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, can be conveyed well to the public,” he explained.

In the digital world, in collaboration with technological developments such as content creators, speaking style, message content, and delivery time must be carefully regulated. According to him, communication ethics are very important to keep up with technological advances.

“If content creators talk about potentials such as tourism and culinary, it will have a domino effect. The power of public speaking and media must be collaborated,” said the Deputy Mayor of Malang.

The Deputy Mayor also appreciated this activity which he said was a positive step for the development of Malang City. However, he reminded that the power of public speaking must be accompanied by valid data so as not to cause false or viral information without basis. “Training like this provides an overview of how to find the right audience segment and convey information systematically,” explained the Deputy Mayor.

He gave an example of the importance of the sequence of data and policy delivery in communication, for example using a normal or inverted pyramid system.

On the same occasion, the Head of Malang City Communication and Information Office, Muhammad Nur Widianto, said that this activity is very linear with the Dasa Bakti Unggulan program initiated by the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Malang. He considered the communication field such as protocol and public speaking to have great potential to create new jobs.

The friendly man also emphasized the importance of good communication techniques and communication ethics in the era of very rapid development of digital technology, including social media and artificial intelligence (AI). “In addition to good communication techniques, communication ethics are also inserted that can foster creativity,” he concluded.
