HENDERSON – Bradshaw State Jail proudly hosted a graduation ceremony today for residents completing the Toastmasters Speech craft Program, a course designed to strengthen communication and leadership skills. Toastmasters International empowers individuals to achieve their full potential and realize their dreams, and through Speech craft, participants learn the fundamentals of public speaking, confidence building, and effective leadership.
The program at Bradshaw is led by Don Everly Smith, Toastmaster Volunteer, whose inspiring “Behind the Walls” mission focuses on providing incarcerated individuals with the tools to improve themselves and prepare for successful re-entry into society.
As part of today’s ceremony, members of the program delivered speeches, showcasing the communication skills they have developed through their Toastmasters journey. Their words reflected both personal growth and the positive impact of the program.
A highlight of the event was a proclamation delivered by Henry Pace, Mayor of Henderson, officially recognizing Aug. 22, as Bradshaw State Jail’s Toastmasters Day. The proclamation underscored the importance of programs like Toastmasters in fostering personal growth, rehabilitation, and community reintegration.
Graduates were honored with certificates recognizing their achievement, followed by a celebratory banquet graciously provided by a local congregation. Adding to the significance of the day, Robert Wallace, Vice President of Advancement at Texas Baptist Institute & Seminary, served as the keynote speaker, delivering a powerful message of encouragement and perseverance.
This event marks another milestone in Bradshaw’s commitment to providing meaningful opportunities for growth and second chances. The success of the Toastmasters Speech craft Program highlights the value of community partnerships and the dedication of volunteers like Mr. Smith, who bring hope and transformation behind the walls.
